About the Writing Centre
The UNIZULU Writing Centre has been in operation since November 2014; it falls within the Teaching and Learning Centre and strives to be responsive to the diverse academic writing needs of the students. In addition, the KwaDlangezwa campus and Richards bay campus both have Writing Centres onsite which is situated at DH5, west residences.

The Writing Centre aims to help students use writing to become effective learners in the University environment. This is done through structured workshops, small group consultation sessions, class presentations, and individual consultations.

How are services provided?
Discipline-specific Writing Centre Assistants and Facilitators offer support and writing companionship to students free of charge in the following manner:
- Provide day-day consultations for students as individuals or as groups.
- Accept invitations from academics to provide class workshops/presentations on their identified academic writing topics.
- Workshops can be in class or at a venue identified by the Writing Centre.
What should be brought to the consultation?
- Bring all documents that will help explain what is required on the assignment/task, e.g., course outline, textbook, question paper, drafts as hard copies, laptops, etc.
- WE DO NOT ACCEPT USBs!!!!!!!
Services not provided at the Writing Centre
- We do not edit or proofread Assignments or Dissertations/Thesis
- We do not reteach class content
- We do not write for students
What to expect during consultations?
- Our friendly staff will have a conversation with you about your writing goals, including what you need to be assisted with and the steps you might take to revise your work.
- You will be encouraged to read and talk about your draft or ideas.
- At the end of the consultation, you will have a clear plan/writing strategy that will assist you in completing your work.
